SANGOVIESE, MERLOt & C. SAUVIGNON make the New wines know as SUPER TUSCAN.

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-veh-zeh"). Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.

Some of they are excellent other just good, this one belongs to the 2nd group, It has a bright and deep red colour enlightened with purple shades. and light smell with fruit aromas (cherry), taste begins with melting tannins, fruity with a smart characteristic to finish. It will equally match with white meat, game birds, red meat, veal or lamb. I've got to say that this won the golden price in Germany in 2009 but even that it didn't quite make a grade for me.

First sniff has a little herbal leafiness to it, making me think there might be some cab and/or merlot in it; slightly darker fruit profile than the chianti tasted before. Turns out to be a SuperTuscan blend. Really nice! Supertuscan blend with some varietal character that gets the job done this well. 80 pts.| Priority : ★★★ |

Nice example of a Rosso di Montalcino. A nice wine. Cassis, cherry, cranberry on the nose. Well integrated oak and smooth on the palate. A little short on the finish but nicely made. Sniffed glass after empty and got huge whiff of raisins.Easy to drink, not to acidic, soft tannins. Flavors of cherry with some Italian herbs. Medium finish, very definitely one of my Italians favorite wines because it is very easy to drink..80 pts | Priority : ★★★|

Dark ruby red color. Layered nose, first very much burnt wood notes, perhaps close to burnt sugar... but then there there are cranberries in icy swamp. Light forest or swamp floor notes. A lot of fruitiness on taste, wood notes lies behind. This juicy medium bodied wine has subtle tannins and very pleasant and fragrant aftertaste. Very nice. 70 pts | Priority : ★★ |

Surprisingly nice and relatively inexpensive Italian red had earlier tonight with Kim, neighborbill and Debbie and two other couples from the neighborhood with outdoor dinner of Italian appetizers and grilled pizza. Very reasonable wine, good mouthfeel, smooth and significant improvement with time in bottle and glass. good QPR at this price point. Very dark purple, surprisingly smooth and fruity nose of berries and cherry with significant improvement as it warmed up and with time in glass. Primary flavors included blackberies, dark cherry, some cedar and subsequent development of terroir and licorice. 70 pts.| Priority : ★★ |
