Designation; De San Marzano
Variety;Primitivo
Producer (Winery); Feudi di San Marzano

Harvest (Vintage) 2006
Dark purple color with large black edges. Sweet, yet fairly complex nose with earth, dark cherries, plums, and a hint of strawberry with only a tiny mark of oak. Good tannin level, clear tones of dried fruit, tar and a bit of smoke. Pretty long aftertaste. Perhaps do with a couple of more years in the cellar. 70 pts | Priority : ★★|

Good wine for a barbequed steak - the full bodied 14% alcohol is carried easily by the rounded plum flavors and smoky tanginess of the primitivo grape, and the nicely balanced acidity. 60 pts | Priority : ★|

PILÚNA
Appellation; Salento IGT
Designation; Piluna
Variety; Primitivo
Producer (Winery); Castello Monaci
Region Italy
Sub-Region Puglia
Harvest (Vintage) 2008
Mildly attractive nose of blackberry sap, resin, and red floral. This barely made the grade with 87pts, but at the end of the day it's the acidity and overall balance that kick up the score. The fruits themselves are so-so, but the easy drinking, simple, cheap, and easy drinking. This wine is not the best and it's not the worst. For the price I was satisfied. It was a bit thin and didnt carry a whole lot of depth, but with a bowl of spagetti, it was just right. 70 pts | Priority : ★★|

PAPALE
Appellation; Primitivo di Manduria
Designation; "Papale"
Variety; Primitivo
Producer (Winery); Vigne e Vini
Region Italy
Sub-Region Puglia
Harvest (Vintage) 2006
Silky ruby colour. Nose much heavier than the palate. You can find beeswax, orange, orange peel, red grapefruit, cloves, elder-linden-honey and mint, developing to a bunch of dried meadow flowers. The palate is nice and round, considerably lighter and sweeter in the finish, with gently stinging acidity. In taste there is honey again, diluted in bitter citrus juice. Not decanted. Pretty purple color, deep but not opaque. Medium viscosity. Huge fruit aromas. Lots of berry flavors without much jamminess. Medium tannins. Good acidity gives it liveliness and lift, the fruit aromas giving way to spice, coffee and licorice, Interesting wine with wit and charm. 70 pts | Priority : ★★|
